Paradise in the desert
Aravaipa Canyon, Arizona
I love a lush oasis hidden in the desert. After fasting and experiencing a two day peyote spirit walk in the desert, hiking and resting along the Aravaipa creek was renewing and soulful.
The flowing waters of Aravaipa Creek carved a gorgeous canyon through the  southeastern Arizona desert over millions of years. This lush oasis feeds a flourishing population of bighorn sheep, javelinas, ringtail cats, fish and over 200 species of birds that live among the cottonwoods, sycamores, willows and ash trees.  It also once supported hundreds of Apache Indians, who held out against the US calvary in this defensible canyon for years.
Aravaipa Canyon is considered one of the great scenic wonders in Arizona.
